Curious moment of day 2: Did you know how photography was invented?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Have you ever wondered how photography was invented? Well, at the curious moment of today, I'll talk about it. I hope you enjoy.

Beginning

In the eighteenth century, an Italian scientist, Angelo Scala, says that exposing the silver nitrate to the sun darkened. In 1727 Schulze also noticed it, he tried to paste on the paper of the sheets of paper and saw that only the parts where there was no paper were obscured, discarding that the phenomenon was due to heat. Similar experiments were disregarded by Thomas Wedgwood in the 19th century and he used a camera obscura to obtain images, without much success.

Development

It was in 1839 when Daguerre used silver iodide to capture the images and sodium thiosulfate to eliminate unaltered silver iodide and 'fix' the images. He also obtained reproductions of good quality on a gray scale, which was called daguerreotypes. The same year, William Henry Talbot presented his positivonegative system to the Royal Institution of London.

Photo reel

In 1847, Niepce began using glass plates coated with an emulsion of silver compounds in egg white, but presented drawbacks. It would be Eastman who develops the emulsions of silver bromide in gelatin and substitutes the support for celluloid, with which the photographic reel was born.
