Here in The Netherlands they continually raid homes or buildings where they expect there is a growing operation. They use infrared cameras from the air, but if you do it right they can't see it with the IR cam . You build a insulated room inside the building you are using, or dig some sea shipping containers into the ground. Or keep it small for personal use, also very hard to detect if done right.
Recently they showed on TV the police was going to use bees to detect grow rooms. I forgot the details but they could be trained to detect and point the police to grow rooms by something the bees could detect easily.
