What if you have no identity? I mean, not really?

The way people form themselves into what they are is fascinating.

When do you actually stop being a crying parent-dependent human hungry for their attention, and develop your ability of being autonomous and able of taking decisions?

It's easy to verify that your family and surroundings are typically fundamental in your approach to life. Depending on the region of the globe you grow up, the average person will have a given religion or lack of it, political stance or the utmost despisal of politics, fondness of sport if there is a national one, social views on what's proper or deemed shameful.

That's why the older generations always think that the new ones are lost... it's a cyclical thing, and you'll probably end up thinking the same of your offspring's too.

You can absorb your environment or feel repulse about it. But in some way, it tends to define you. Time has a place here too, as the longer time passes by, the less you feel vividly that repulse. Untill you meet it face to face again and those buried memories come to surface and you're taken with rage.

What about what you feel empathetic with, from the past? Curiously, you cherish that dearly, and relegate any bad parts of it to oblivion or change the events that happened - in your mind - to something less meaningful.

Why do we function that way? Why is that we hold some memories in an almost graphical way, while the majority of others disappear?

Memory has strange mechanisms we do not quite understand, but those mechanisms appear to be of vital importance to how we make do in our daily life. Whatever they may be.

Genetics, of course. The question here is to what degree? When you have an extreme sociopath that kills people - rare, very rare, I know - for his inability to relate or feel things, isn't he a victim of his biology?

People like to say that people who commit hedious crimes are this and that, and yet, how far are they from ourselves? You could be that person, with the right predisposition, surroudings, and all the factors I mentioned and so many more I did not. Or only because of one of those.

Just think... how many people have you met in your life that have perfectly normal or even successful lifes and you're damn sure they have no guilt, or that they could leave your dead body by the side of a road?
