In response, geographer Jean-Robert Pitt, writer Bernard Beer, oncologist David Kaya and a few dozen members of the French Academy of Wine published an article in the Figaro newspaper urging the head of the Ministry of Health of France "to stop demonizing wine that is part of the French civilization."
