Why Vulnerability is SO Powerful

People ask why I share so openly on social media. I write from my scars, not my wounds. I'm no longer attached to where I was in that moment or what I was feeling. So it's a bit easier to share. Still scary, sometimes, but it gets easier with time.
Recently, I've tried speaking from my wounds. Letting people in. Letting people see whatever I'm excited about in the moment. I don't do that well, and I don't do that regularly. Because joy is the scariest thing. I've shared my joy recently, in real time, and it kind of bit me in the butt, because what I was joyful about and hopeful for, didn't happen.
Brene Brown talks about this. You know what's the scariest thing? Announcing your excitement to the world and then wondering if what you're hopeful about will actually come through. Showing up next day and telling everyone you were wrong. They can stop waiting in anticipation. It's over. You didn't get the job. You didn't get the scholarship. He changed his mind. She made plans with someone else instead. Things like that. ### We're afraid to show up in the moment with ALL that we really feel. I did that. And it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. BUT, that's necessary.
Glennon Doyle Melton talks about how we try so hard to protect our heart, like it's our one job and goal to return it untarnished at the end of our lives. How true this has been for me?! SO true. But today, my heart breaks a little. I know now this is just the first step for letting more light in. Being honest with myself about the process, and allowing others in when I'm at my most vulnerable. Because truly, truly, this is where the magic, the healing, and the life happens: the spaces in between.
