Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence
The level of domestic violence in our society is really alarming. The victims of this terrible act are mostly women. Some women do not consider their experiences as family violence but rather see them as family arguments that got out of hand. Sometimes their children also fall victims of this malicious act.
On the other hand, the abusers see the act as an entitlement since the woman is the weaker sex. Unfortunately, domestic violence is legal in some countries. Through this, women are inflicted with so many injuries. The victims are usually very depressed. Some women get killed in the process.
The worst part is that some of the victims will rather stay in abusive marriages than walk away from them. They claim that their husbands love them and they will eventually change. Just because they apologize afterwards and buy you gifts to pacify you doesn't mean they will change. For how long will you keep defending someone who does the same thing over and over again. Will you rather wait till your corpse is sent to your parents before you read the handwriting on the wall?
I feel that even if you don't want to end the marriage, do it for the sake of your kids. Children need a stable environment for proper growth and development. Most kids who grow in homes where domestic violence is the order of the day usually become psychologically disturbed. They are unable to have peaceful families when they grow into adults.
If a man truly loves his wife, then he won't ever hit her no matter what the situation is.

Lost
Darkness fills the empty space
Light has travelled into space
The broken pieces are ubiquitous
Now the pain is made obvious
Still looking for solace
You are losing the race
The situation is malignant
Flowing water becomes stagnant
You say everything is my fault
Now you are making it difficult
You say you don't know me anymore
Because I will tolerate it no more
All I do now is soliloquize
With old memories to eulogize
Sometimes I just wonder
How everything became sour
Holding hands is just a charade
Can't remember the mistakes I made
Parting was your own idea
You said you needed fresh air
That day you took your first drink
Then our lives began to shrink
That day you took your first weed
Then you became a corrupt seed
Now you are uncontrollable
Going about causing trouble
Your hot temper has escalated
At the sight of me you are irritated
All those nights of thorough beating
And days of immense pleading
Telling you I'm tired is an understatement
Your words are no form of enchantment
You've suddenly become a kleptomaniac
Which explains the bottles in the sack
They can't take it in your field
You worsen everyday and evil begins to yield
Having to bail you out countlessly
You still deal with me mercilessly
Apologizing to me is now a habit
You're too blind to see I don't believe it
You say the nicest things when you're sober
At night your sober phase is over
You said it was a big mistake
But one blow put three lives at stake
You said my stomach hadn't grown yet
But just one push put me in a casket
You said you love me to the moon and back
But you were bent on making my life very dark
Now I know why you never had a glass
Because the aftermath lowered your class
You said your father did this to her
It's unfortunate that you didn't turn out to be better
You said you'll never be like him
But you have joined the beaters' team
You always made me your punching bag
Then my body parts began to sag
You said true love endures forever
I now know I should have been clever
You said you can't hurt our children
But you put them in a lion's den
It's too late to say you are sorry
All you did was make me worry
To the world you were perfect
Even though you had so many defects
You dug up my grave too early
Your love was never fiery
So many words left unspoken
You left my heart completely broken
You'll probably rot in a prison cell
And you won't be set free on bail
You took their mother away
So you must pay
The future is near
Where your punishment will become clear
So stop looking back
Because that won't save your back
Its a great poem, it hits hard on domestic violence which is an ever present and growing issue in Nigeria and the world over. Keep it up @astoldbyv👍👍👍
