A rumor is a social cancer, it is difficult to contain and it rots the brains of the masses. However, the real danger is that so many people find rumors enjoyable. And in such cases when a rumor is only partially made of truth, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where the information may have gone wrong.
I agree. I tend to reprimand my friends when they are gossiping about people because 1) it isn't cool to talk trash about people and 2) like you indicate above, there probably isn't much truth to it and spreading it only makes it worse
