Fall In Love

imageWe are all known to the phrase of –“Fall in Love”, but do anyone of us know the real meaning of what is it that everyone keeps talking about, that everyone is so fond to share to the world, yet they don’t and just pass mixed emotions. So let’s start with understanding what exactly is love, shall we ?
People say, Love is a feeling or an emotion you feel towards someone you admire. But is it really just an emotion? How an emotion can lead you to throw your self-respect for someone and keep drowning into an abyss, even when you’re uncertain about it’s end point? How an emotion can make you expand your limits to such horizons which were even unknown to you ? Emotions are capable of doing strange and impeccable things, but this much that it can build you and crush you at same moment is only the capability of this feeling called Love.
imageNow let’s understand falling into love. The peculiar world’s projection to this would be: You meet someone, you share some thoughts, you like them, develop feeling for them, and whoosh you’ve fallen into love my friend. But is that true ? And why we even call it falling? Doesn’t falling hurt and gives pain ? When you start admiring someone, you look into their little things, how they crinkle up their nose when they laugh, that throttled sound in their cries, that crooked eyebrow they form when they’re being synonym of devil, that late night thoughts of theirs, how they want the world to look in a different way, work in a different way, how badly they want to survive this life. And once you’ve reached onto this depth of their life, you know every darkest fear of theirs but somehow now, rather than being a listener, you want to become their saviour, their warrior, and particularly their armour.
imageWhy people call it falling ? It’s very unusual that you know you’re falling and you want to, without knowing the destination, whether it’s a steep hill down there or a take off to push you into the skies. We never fall into love with our decision or someone else’s. We love because we want someone to stand along us whether we are going to fall or fly up the sky, we just want that person to hold our hand and to tell us that they’re here, no matter how badly your demons try to push them away, they’ll always be with you, in pain and in happiness, for forever and ever, till death do them part.

This was a very interesting read. The line 'keep drowning into an abyss, even when you’re uncertain about it’s end point?' really stood out to me. There is something poetic about this. I do agree with your confusion about why we call it 'falling'. I prefer to call that feeling 'rising in love'. Rising in love is different to falling in love, as rising elevates you and helps you grow, making you stronger. Love is an immensely complex phenomenon. I would go to the extent of saying it is definitely beyond being an emotion, and even further, to say that is something more than an admiration. So far I have not found the words to describe love, and from what I know, no one has. Perhaps that is because love is relative, and it depends on the individual and his/her experience. Pinpointing and compressing love into a definite definition would also, in my opinion, kill the beauty. Love is simply a mystery to be experienced and learned from. Thank you so much for this piece. I really enjoyed it!

PS: If you are interested and have some spare time, I have some poetry on my blog too.

Too much of confusion lies in this little emotion !
