Is the selfie culture a sign we are living in the era of "The last men" ?steemCreated with Sketch.

After declaring "God is dead" Frederick Nietzsche spent his life searching for another way of finding meaning to existence. Interestingly his biggest fear was his prediction of a future era he called "The last men". A society where people had created a mass overload of cultural choices in order to fill the void left by God´s eradication. In this world, people stopped striving for greatness but instead settled into a kind of "religion of comfortableness", fooling themselves that they were happy. They no longer looked up at the stars in wonder but merely blinked unimpressed. Instead the "last men" focussed all their attention upon trivial pursuits and themselves. Or perhaps we could simply call it; a selfie culture.

I believe Terry Pratchet said this quite nicely

"The sun will not rise tomorrow. Instead a ball of glowing hydrogen and helium will rise." paraphrased from the Hogfather.

When you use science, you cut all the mystery and wonder out of it.
But that is what science means. Science from the same base word as scythe. To cut apart.

"The starry sky above me and the moral law within me."
In some way, this words still have meaning today, IMHO ;)
