Speaking face to face?!
Who are you talking to? You don’t know how to respond to their comment. What should you say in reply?
We are talking here about Avatars:
For those who don’t know what an avatar is, it’s an image you upload to use as a profile you wish to promote yourself on the internet, when blogging and posting comments.
- You can use a symbolic emoji icon to represent yourself.
- Some people put up a photo of their child or pet, because they love or proud of them.
Generally this is because people want to stay anonymous. But it makes it hard for people to judge who they are talking to!
Some of the avatars you see:
- You may see only a man’s tie in the avatar image. You feel like you are talking to a tie.
- If you see a child’s face, you think you are talking to a child. But when you go to that person’s site, you find they’re an adult and their blogs are very intelligently put across. Very confusing, you could have offended that person!
- On the other hand, you get busty female avatar icons, trying to sell their favours. When I see one of those, it turns me off straight away. That person has cheapened themselves and has sold their respect and integrity.
Actually your Avatar is your hallmark!
Your image:
First impressions count. Your image is what it implies. Isn’t it true, when you first meet someone you judge them by what they wear, how they stand, their expressions and how they behave?!
If you put up a photo of yourself, it shows you are unashamed of who you are and what you do.
If it’s a full-length photo of a person, it’s hard to see and cipher the personality in such a tiny small area. It looks just like a stick-figure and lost to humanity!
- It is better to use a close up of your face, it gives people more idea who you are and who they are talking to. What’s more, people feel they are talking face to face with you, making it easier to relate to you.
- The more friends and followers you build, the more famous you and your site becomes. Isn’t that the main reason you blog on Steemit and the internet!?
Your product:
If you don’t want to show your face, use a close-up image or a simple icon that symbolically represents your talent, product or what you stand for.
For example my talent is Art, my name is actually Ada, so my favicon for my website (www.adafagan.co.za) is:
The fact is, your personality counts:
People are interested in what you did. What made you so famous? How and what you achieved, with what you had or been through, etc.
Don’t be ashamed of who you are. People forget you had wrinkles and grey hair. Rather, they begin to see how fascinating and dynamic you are. What an exciting life you’ve lived. And wished they had done what you had done.
They go to your site to see what you are still doing and catch up on the latest. Maybe there is more for them there that they can learn from too.
Backing up on your brand:
The image is not only what you look like, but what you say and do is important too.
How you make comments, shows how intelligent you are. That is: How you relate to what’s been said, your sense of humour and outlook on life, etc.
- So when deciding on an avatar photo or image, consider what you want the world to remember you as or for.
- How do you want people to relate to you? Can you handle that? Can you keep that image up.
- Do you want people to be impressed by your personality, seek you out and go to your website to find out more about you, etc?!

I see you have your hand on your heart in your avatar. Are you are a person who feels deeply about things?

It's a pleasure. I see you have a close up of your face. It's great to talk to you face to face. I hope we get to know each other much better as time goes on.

Definitely, your profile picture, dp or avatar, represents you and tells people what your blog is about, it is the first impression that people will get when they visit your blog.
Yes, your profile and what you stand for, is important when socializing with others. Even the opening bar statement of your blogs are important. The way you write says a lot too.

Hi. I've been on Steemit for about two years now and was one of the first to join Discord.
The reason I used the keyword or tag `introduceyourself' was that starting out with the right type of avatar will help folks build friends and followers. And it's hard to know how to direct your replies to their comments if you don't know who they are or what is their forte.
the avatar it aims to represent the interpolated readable for the purpose of writing
Gosh, you also know how important an image is.
