RE: You Be The Judge- IFC - S1 : R30 entry

in #life6 years ago

There's some deep wisdom in this point and I generally agree with your sentiments, but.. I do have at least one significant disagreement and that is that.. I believe judging to be a natural unavoidable aspect of life, so the correct way to say this might be to say something like.. "Unfair judgements" are harmful.

For example, I'm sure you like it when someone says something nice about you or someone you love, you take it as a compliment and it makes you feel positive, but that's judgement as well, it's just not "negative" or "unfair" judgement. Even negative judgement has it's places in places as you mentioned near the end of your post, but to me.. Unfair judgement is wrong.. And that's when you judge someone in a bad way when there is no victim. For example, a style of clothes, or a liking certain types of music, or whatever.. If there is no victim, no one should be treated poorly for their choices. HOWEVER.. If there is a victim, then I think it's perfectly okay to judge what happened and say it was wrong of so and so to do that to so and so. For example, if someone is bullying, then it is appropriate to judge it and bring attention to it and try to rectify it if possible. Thanks for the thought provoking entry!

See, this is why I like ifc. It is always great topics that get brought to us which are good for thinking. Now that you bring it to my attention, I completely see what you're saying. Unfair judgement would have been a much better way to word this. I didn't even realize it before but judging someone really is neccassary, the good kind is what the world needs though. Thanks for bringjng that up.
