Things I have learnt from Being a Writer

in #life8 years ago

Sitting at a desk for long periods is not good for your body, nor is drinking gallons of coffee to stay awake.

You just sit down to write and the dog (on cue) will whine to be taken for a walk.
Note to self: Always take dog for walk first.

No matter where you write, the kids will always find you. Like when you want to eat your fav chocolate and you have to hide in the wardrobe....

Staying up until 3am every night, does not make a productive next day.

Reading posts on social media does not fulfil your writing goal.

Writing one sentence only to stop and edit is of no help whatsoever.

If you tell the kids you are writing and watch a movie instead, they will always catch you out. Always.

Making a pretty book cover will in no way get the said book written.

You've spent the entire day thinking I can't wait to write later, only to fall asleep at the keyboard once you get the chance. Just give up.

You just get into a writing rhythm and the words flow from that magical place, then the dog will want to go out for a pee or the other thing. Every time!

Always, always delete your browsing history if you use a shared computer, especially at the public library.

When researching dead alien bodies, make sure the kids aren't looking over your shoulder.

Every time you go shopping and head straight to the stationery section to buy more pens, they DO NOT in any way help you write a book.

Reading books about writing is not writing. It's just not.

You know you're a writer when, oh hell, just write.

Creating this list to put on Steemit, is not in any way or form going to get that book finished.

Stop procrastinating. JUST WRITE! Kermit says so!
