Water towers - decorative and functional ...

Seeing water towers is very common place in Australia and around the world. Up to now I have taken them for granted and not spent anytime or interest in them. I do not have an engineer's brain. But, it was several weeks ago when travelling along in an outer suburb of Brisbane called Kallangur that this decorative water tower caught my photographic eye.

So I snapped a pic as we drove along. Check it out!



It cannot be a proper post with some research thrown in. Right? You may or may not be knowledgeable with water towers but please bear with me.

This is what I found -

A water tower is a structure raised up above the ground. The structure supports a water tank that is positioned high enough to provide a pressurised water supply system of drinkable water for the community. The water is also for fighting fires. In some places the water tower may only be used for fire fighting and industrial reasons; not for drinking. The water towers are either positioned near an underground water supply or have tanks of water near by. All the water is specially treated for human consumption. The way the system goes is that once the water is depleted during the day the pump system refills it at night. The water tower is a clever practical water system for towns.
