Why I stopped posting *anything personal* on Facebook since years (and happy like this)
Yes, I still have a Fb account and just use it to promote my live concerts and/or websites. (I call it Fb spamming)
But I stopped posting anything personal since years, and felt really better like this.

The main reason is that I couldn't afford to deny friendship to many people, until I found myself having the following kind of "friends":
- primary school - high school - university - schoolmates
- relatives of all kinds and ages
- people I don't really know who they are
- ex friends and ex girlfriends
- ex coworkers and colleagues
- angry haters always complaining about something and someone (anything you write can be potentially outrageous to them!)
If you are an employee, all your private business is tracked
If you are about to be hired by someone, watch out! They will go to your Fb page and collect any information to decide if they like you or not
Worst people are never commenting or putting likes, they just spy your page silently (stealth mode), trying not to be noticed, to get more infos about you.
So imagine using Fb like a sort of private diary and writing on your wall
Oh, today I feel so depressed, I'm totally broke and I drank a full bottle of wine listening to Johnny Cash.
So you get 4 likes from
- you old auntie
- the guy sitting next to you at school when you were 9 years old
- an unknown karaoke singer
- one of your ex girlfriend
All other "friends" remain silent (but aware of your post).
So, if you are an employee and next day you don't go to the office, your coworker starts a Fb chat early in the morning
Drinking too much yesterday night, uh? You already did it last week! While you're comfortable at home, we are still clueless about that server problem you forgot to solve on Monday!
The other problem are friends' friends.
Some people, when curious, ask one of your "friends" to check your profile page (they have no access to it because of your privacy settings).
Hello Mary, I can't access his Fb profile, may you please check it for me? I found Andrew quite odd recently and I would like how is his mood. It will remain a secret! Thank you :)
What makes me really, really sad is that majority of people is not able to keep their mouth shout, so every single day they have to tell to Facebook anything they have on their mind and everything they did.
- Eat sushi? Here's the detailed photoshoot of every single dead-fish dish
- Weekend vacation? Fully documented
- New crush? Enigmatic sentences give everybody some hints about who may be...
- Problems with neighbors, parents, partner? Everything explained in detail!
People are giving up all of their privacy for free, without even realizing it!
Oh, but we have the Facebook privacy settings!
But... who wants to spend all that time to set it up?
I upvoted You
Thank you so much

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 9.1 and reading ease of 73%. This puts the writing level on par with Michael Crichton and Mitt Romney.
