Work Less & Live More

in #life7 years ago

It is time to value yourself more and to appreciate your limited resource of time.

  • Why do you choose to work more hours than you give yourself to not work?
  • The more you work for $$, the more you pay for tax.
  • If you pay 20% tax as an example, then 20% of the time you are working is for the govt.
  • Reduce your monetary needs:
    • Plant your own vegies
    • Have your own chickens
    • Drink more water (stop buying drinks)
    • Bake
    • Stop buying unessential items
  • I believe that $$ should be spent on nonessential items.
  • Why is the govt taxing essential items?
  • Walk, Bike, Run more :)
  • Barter - can you work in exchange for non monetary goods - remember when you accept $$ then you will pay tax on that eventually. GST / VAT on goods for example.
  • Research your country taxes
  • Calculate the cost of everything in time.

The Grand Plan

The grand plan is simple really. And, I believe most people have the same grand plan. That is to enjoy life as much as they can.

The exact definition is down to the individual, but certainly working is not really what people want to be doing. There are plenty of justifications around working; but it is not the work as such, do not confuse work with the reward for working.

That reward is typically money. But even then it is not the money you desire, it is what you can convert that money into.

So simply put, you trade your time for those things that you buy with money. But is it really necessary to trade our time for money. By trading in money, then we are devaluing our time more than if we found a way to remove the middleman of money. Why? Because for every dollar that we earn, we give a portion to the govt.  If you are taxed at 20% then for every 5 days you work, you are in fact working 1 day for the govt.

If you could eliminate money completely then your 5 day work week could be reduced to 4 days straight away. Of course, we cannot completely avoid money unfortunately. Some bills such as power, mortgages / rent etc are for the foreseeable future going to require money to pay. A more detailed grand plan therefore is to reduce your reliance on money such that you gain more time for yourself to enjoy life as much as you can.
