Driver Who ‘Left Friend To Die In Burning Car’ Is A Hero, Says Brother
Saeed Ahmad is the man videoed in the New York car crash where he left his passenger to die in the front seat. Saeed was driving his luxury 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway when he hit a concrete barrier and the car lit on fire. The video shows him walking out of the wreckage and hailing a cab and then asking the cab driver to take him to the hospital.
His 25-year-old passenger, and according to some reports, his girlfriend, is Harleen Grewal.
The charred body of the 25-year-old was removed from the car around 4 am on Friday morning after the fires were fully extinguished.
Saeed, who was not licensed to drive at the time, has been accused of swerving in and out of traffic before hitting the concrete barrier.
The 23-year-old man hailed a taxi to Maimonides Hospital in Borough Park where he got treated for burns to his extremities.
As Saeed was taking his cab ride to the hospital, Harleen was being burned to death in his car. She was pronounced dead at the scene on October 13.
Ahmad has since been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and speeding.
Many, including Saeed’s father, have lambasted his heinous act, however, his brother has stepped forth to call Saeed ‘a hero.’
In an interview with the New York Post, the 21-year-old Waheed called his brother a hero and not a coward.
‘He did not just run away from the scene. He lost his phone in the car [and was] unable to call the ambulance. He tried to get [Grewel] out. That’s how his hands and his legs and his neck got burned. He couldn’t get her out. The fire got too crazy. It just burned so quick.’
Waheed went on to explain that his brother ‘was in pain’ and since the ‘ambulance wasn’t coming’ Saeed had to flee the scene in order to get his injuries treated.
