Blue Monday 2018
Blue Monday, known as the most depressing day of the year dates from 2005. 13 years ago, researchers have found that the third Monday of January is the most depressing day, taking into consideration some variables, such as the level of motivation, new year's resolutions, the days passed since Christmas and many other factors.
I do not intend to insist on the formula that stays in the back of the so called "Blue Monday", as I want to discuss a bit about the feelings many people have today and how we can we to overcome our limitations and lack of motivation.
Depression is one the biggest problems of our century because of the high level of stress, the immense volume of information we all receive via social media and internet and because of the loneliness we confront with. Globally, more than 300 millions of people of all ages confront with depression and the statistics show us that this number is still growing. As trying to overcome depression, many of us try to plan their future, to create future plans, to guide ourselves though "to do lists", to set life goals, etc. And while the best time of the year to write down new resolutions and to set goals is December, in January we start to feel the "consequences"; we start to feel the urge to achieve the goals and this automatically guide us to anxiety, frustrations and...depression.
Today is 2018's Blue Monday so, I think today is the best day to talk about how we can start to overcome depression.
As I have been there through the years, I won't say that in order to overcome depression we need to feel positive because I know this is almost impossible and guides us to deeper levels of frustration and dispair. Instead of this, if you feel depressed and overwhelmed, please, try to invite your depression in; embrace it, let it stay close to you and try to listen to your heart. Try to listen to your dispair. What does it tells you? What are you affraid of? What blocks your happiness? What can you do for yourself to feel just a little bit happy?
Please, ask yourself how would you feel if you'd fail about your goals, your plans or whatever is important to you right now. It scares you that you can fail with your new business plans? Ok. Then ask yourself what can you do to prevent this. Maybe the answer is that you should learn more about your business field, or maybe that you should work a little harder, or maybe you should reevaluate your business plan. You know better what's the best answer.
As soon as you give yourself an answer, as soon as you've stayed with your depression enough to answer to the most important questions you have right now, invite the depression out of your had, get dressed, get ready and act on your goals way to succes.
