Blind Grandmother
With an absolutely blind grandmother, I met absolutely randomly on the street. It was so. I handed over the child for a few hours to a private kindergarten, while she herself was walking nearby. And then I see an old grandmother with a cane walking towards me, to which she is constantly tapping, as if probing the ground. In one of the places she suddenly braked. I went to her to find out if everything was all right, and whether she needed help. Granny was overjoyed and said that she was going to the supermarket to buy food. I said: "Let me take you." She gladly agreed. I took Grandma's arm, and we went.
As it turned out, she did not see anything at all. Absolutely. Total darkness. But nevertheless regularly, even though it's snowing, even though it rains outside and visits a store that is located two hundred meters from the house, and sometimes even goes across the street to the pharmacy for medicines. I was completely surprised that a completely blind person moves so freely along the street of a millionaire city, where there are dangers all around, in particular, there is a road near the road. And at home the grandmother has a husband, but he already moves badly - his legs hurt, so he does not leave the house at all, never. The woman has two children who periodically visit her and call, but live separately. This fact, too, frankly, surprised me. If I had a blind mother, could I not have taken her to me to take care of her and go to the store herself. It seemed strange to me. Grandmother does not lose heart, she knows the way from house to shop like her five fingers: every dimple, every curb, every fence along the road. All this is "palpated" by her for many years of going to the store. And even a social worker, she said, she does not need. Itself copes. Prepares and removes the house, too, without any outside assistance. It must be so!
We came with my grandmother to the store. We went inside. The employees of the supermarket know it well. Sellers help to pick up products, to throw in the cart and to take the cart to the cash register. But this time I helped her in buying food. Grandmother said what kind of products are needed. We cooked together and went to the cashier. Then I helped her to bring her everything she had bought home.
I met this granny then two more times and both times helped her to go to the store and buy everything she needed.
That's how it happens. A person does not see at all, but tries not to close up at home in four walls, shows activity, enjoys life, so after this meeting, my view of the life of people not seeing the vision has changed radically. If earlier I believed that it is impossible to exist without sight, it is better to die, but it turns out that people live, and even rejoice in this invisible life ...
