These five practices will improve your “wake-up abilities” but all of them take power of will. Each of these are skills that you will develop and practice. You may not get them instantly at first, but that’s nothing to worry about, just keep going and you’ll get it. Let’s get started:

1 - Learn about sleep cycles:

This is the first and foremost, because this will give you a clear understanding on how our body can rest properly without having to wake up late.

The average human body sleeps in 1.5 hour individual increments. If you interrupt your sleep in the middle of one of these cycles, you will feel tired & moody for the rest of the day, but if you manage to wake up at the top of one of these cycles, it will be a lot easier for you to stay awake.

This is the trick to tell your mind & body to wake up at the top of a cycle: set your sleep in lapses of 4.5 hours, 6 hours, 7.5 hours or 9 hours to ensure a correct timing and feel well-rested as soon as your alarm goes off. This will definitely help.

2 - Visualize yourself in the morning:

This has to be done before you fall asleep, once you’re getting ready to finally rest. Ask yourself “why” you should get up.

Why do you want to be awake the next morning? What are you going to do as soon as you step out of bed? You need a solid reason, maybe a business idea, or improving your progress at the gym. Remind yourself what’s your everyday goal, so you can go to sleep thinking about it and wake up inspired.

3 - Change your view on yourself:

If you want to believe something, repeat it to yourself every day. Keep saying you want to be someone who wakes up early, and make that a loop inside your head.

For example, someone who exercises is not constantly forcing himself to do it every day, there was a point where he accepted he was someone who’s into fitness. Matter of fact, we view them that way too! So, at this moment you believe in yourself as someone who wakes up late all the time, so it’s time to stop that mindset and start cycling upwards. From now on, think of yourself as that type of person you want to become.

4 - Get prepared:

This preparation must start the night before. Basically, your early morning has to be planned ahead from the previous evening. Get your breakfast meal prep ready, your clothes washed and all you need to step outside and be productive. This is a way to start your day as soon as you step out of bed.

5 - Throw all your excuses away:

There must be no “but” when it comes to positive changes. Identify what kind of excuses are you making to not wake up early and get rid of them.

The best way to do this is knowing your purpose on waking up early and your motives on getting a full rest every night. Start telling your body that wake up time will be a few hours earlier from now on and believe me: it will eventually understand.
