Let's talk about getting out of your comfort zone shall we?

in #life8 years ago

(oh look! A picture that's not as cliched as some guy standing on a cliff or whatever)

So many people are always keen to talk about getting out of their comfort zones.

So many bloggers always write about getting out of their comfort zones, what with their "Top 5 ways I got out of my comfort zone" articles and whatever.

And then, successful people always like to teach how great it is to get out of their comfort zones by talking about it, regaling some tale (usually about how they decided to quit their job) through the power of hindsight and then... sell you some worthless shit that ultimately benefits them only.

Well there's your fucking problem: You just want to talk about it.

There's really nothing much to talk about when it comes to getting out of your comfort zone.

You just need to know ONE thing:

To get out of your comfort zone, you need to feel scared as fuck!

Not just slightly uncomfortable. Scared as fuck.

This is when you feel that fear in your stomach and makes you feel like you're going to puke.

This is when your legs don't even want to let you move.

This is when you start breathing rapidly like an angry bull, who's actually frightened.

This is when you think to yourself, "What the fuck am I doing?!"

This is when you simply don't know if what you're about to do will actually work out, or land you in humiliating failure.

This is when you feel like everyone around you is watching you, judging you, all with their little fingers pointing at you.

This is when you feel oh-so-alone in this entire world because you feel like no one else can understand enough to help you and validate you.

This is when you actually feel like retreating to a safer place.

This is when you can't stop worrying what others are thinking of you.

This is when everything just doesn't fucking make sense! But you feel like something needs to be done anyway.

This is when... oh whatever. I can go on and on.

That's the point of the comfort zone you see:

You're supposed to feel really, really scared and not have a single, god damn idea that it's going to work out.

But you do it anyway.

Because all the shitty and scary feelings you feel are signs that you're actually going in the right direction.

Anything less? It means you're staying put or maybe even moving backwards. There is absolutely nothing there for you anymore.

Do you feel scared after reading this?

You're already on the edge.

Fucking jump.

Peace,

Alden

Found this and you thanks to @positivity
I totally live in the scared as fuck world...but I've gotten so used to jumping that I've traded my cape for a damn broom. RAWR. LOL

LOL. Gather balls! Life is too short otherwise.

Really good post. And remember, sometimes you'll fall and burn and everyone will laugh and judge. But you'll learn from it and come back twice as bulletproof :)

It's so easy to point, laugh and talk. It's not easy to do. Don't be the former.
