Do you prefer taking shortcuts in life?

Most of the people would say ‘no’ when they are asked such a question. But, in real life people seldom hesitate to take a shortcut to be successful in life. Then the reply doesn’t remain an honest one. 

Shortcut is a method to avoid the full procedure that is normally acceptable. But, shortcut is not equal to use unfair means. It is not always indecent and cheating to cut the time of completing the task. If we can do a work efficiently, effectively and economically using a certain path, why should we not take that path, provided it is not illegal, unfair and unjust? I think it will be clear if I give some examples.

Suppose you are given a task to calculate some data but you also know computer programming. What will you do? Will you calculate the given data using a calculator or excel sheet, or will you do some adjustment? I think it will be a smart work if you use your programming skill and make a program calculate the data automatically. It will help your organization to save precious time which otherwise would have been wasted. 

A skilled programmer can save precious time and efforts by creating an automatic system which can do some specific task quickly and efficiently. One may consider it a shortcut way but it is not bad at all. Hard work is not important, smart work is important. If hard work had been the yardstick of getting respect, then the donkey would have been the most revered animal. So, it is not bad to take shortcuts, if it is not illegal, indecent, unfair and unjust and amounts to dishonesty. If a work can be performed in a shorter way, why should we not take the shorter path? After all, wisdom is nothing but all about the rational thinking and smart working.
