Sorry.
Dear all
It is with sadness and regret that today I confirm that my(our) trip to Nepal has been cancelled for personal reasons.
Many of you reading this would be forgiven to thinking, 'so?', but my reasons for this blog are as follows.
The original post for this trip to Nepal detailed how I(we) would be going to the country to give our time and skills to what we felt a worthwhile cause. I explained that we would be looking for support from yourselves to aid projects at a school and children's home.
This post reached $221.86, $166.395 after the 25% curation cut - a large amount of which came from @thejohalfiles, @fulltimegeek, @roelandp, @teamsteem, and @exyle.
As this trip is no longer taking place, I wish to 'refund' or 'redistribute' these funds, along with the donation made from @uwelang and his 'weekly charity blog'.
Firstly, thank you and apologies, @uwelang - Redistribute these funds as you see fit.
Secondly, I wish to seek guidance from the Steemit community on how to re-distribute the $166.395 that original post made.
I have sent memo's to the 'larger up-voters' above, and @surfermarly who was instrumental in promoting this blog, apologizing for this outcome and seeking advice.
For clarity, I wish to provide details on the flight purchase, and flight cancellation.
The total cost (loss) being 434.96 euros (504.744USD).
I would like to say 'thank you' to the many people who supported the initial post, and 'sorry' for letting you down.
I hope the above provides enough as an apology, along with suitable transparency to make right.
Please, provide suggestions as to the relocation of funds in the comments and I will do my best fulfill the general wishes of the community.
Yours sincerely
Asher
I would imagine you can find good causes in Nepal to donate those funds to if you feel that such recompense is required. That way you would still be doing some good for the community, even though you are unable to make the trip yourself.
That's the type of thing I would be looking into in your shoes. But certainly verify the donations actually are working for those in need before sending funds to anyone claiming to be a charity.
Best to you and yours!
Hi Mike
Thanks for your comments.
This is certainly an option and I will keep it in mind.
Cheers
Asher
Hey Asher! Sorry for my late reply. As I mentioned before I was on my own charity trip today :-)
I think you don't have to worry about the funds since you can use them at any point of time. As long as you don't take the money for something completely different, I guess nobody would ever feel offended.
The idea @mikepm74 posted here seems quite logical to me. I guess I would take the money and try to support some other charity organizations. Like that the cause is supported anyways.
Again, don't worry about it - there can't be ever too much money available for making this world a better place :-)
Steem on, my friend!
Hi Marly
Thanks for the reply.
I'd really like to use the money on projects, like yours, where there is a good level of transparency on what's happening with it. Ideally, i'd like to share it out to projects on here.
Do you think that would be a suitable approach? I could just wallet transfer it as and when, and stick the transfer image in the comments of this post, until the sum is paid in full.
Thanks again
Asher
Sure! The money has been raised on steemit, so it's definitely a good idea to use it for initiatives promoted by steemians. I'm pretty sure you will find the right way to proceed :-)
I'm very sorry to hear these news and I can imagine how bummed out you are feeling. Hope things are okay with you and know that you always have my support !
Cheers Dan.
Yeah, not the best day. At least Steemfest is next week and that should lift spirits somewhat.
Ash
Steemfest should boost the spirits :)
I hope so! :D
Hey Asher!
oh... me (Lucas) and my wife were travelling for a year in Latin America, volunteering and helping indigenous communities... I can understand how do you feel.
Hope you are ok!
@mikepm74 s' suggestion is maybe a good option.
Big hug
Lucas, Diana ... and Steemitri The Mannequin
Hi Steemitri
Thank you for your kind words. Yes I think Mikes idea is a good one also.
Best wishes to all :)
Asher
I'm so sorry you had to cancel your trip! I really hope you can do this another time. Hope all will be fine for you! BTW, thank you for the support to my latest post, very much appreciated!
Yes I do too. ah well, that's life for you.
No problem, same!
Oh. What a bumper! A very mature decision. Canceling trips sucks. Sad to hear about yours! Hope whatever the reason is will be treated accordingly. You can keep my 2 cents though 🍅
Thanks for your comments Robert.
And yes, 'sucks', is putting it mildly.
Asher
Memos sent.
