NIGERIA'S MOST DANGEROUS DOCTOR

The crowd cheered and jeered as the eight condemned men were led from the Black Maria on to the raised podium. Many had arrived early to get a good view, while some had brought seats or hired chairs. The mounted police rode back and forth , menacingly, to keep the crowd of thousands at bay. The mobile police unit posted around the perimeter also played their part in maintaining law and order. Most if the men has made a career out of armed robbery but the man most had come to see was Dr Ishola Oyenusi. The doctor was smiling and talking calmly to the pastor. He again confessed his sins and asked the pastor to pray for his soul. Oyenusi had been nicknamed Doctor by members of his gang because of his ability to remove bullets from wounds sustained by gang members during operations.
At the time of his arrest, the Doctor had been in Ibadan. He had left Lagos for his second home in Ibadan, straight after the proceeds of a major robbery, Oyenusi's gangbhad trailed a van delivering wages from the bank to the factory. As planned, the gateman delayed opening the gate to tge factory. The human resources manger was the gang's inside man and the gateman did his biddingm
Oyenusi was stationed outside the factory in the getaway car. It had been snatched the day before and its owner killed. On noticing the wages van, Oyenusi alighted without hesitation. Approaching the passenger door, Oyenusi ordered the cashier and accompanying policeman to lie face don. However, being new to the job, the policemañ started to resist and met his death as bullets sprayed forth from Oyenusi's rabbit SMG.
At Ibadan, Oyenusi was getting on with life as an everyday citizen, trading from his builders and general merchandise shop. A crack police unit led by Supritendent James Oyebisi arrived from Lagos. Their task was to find out if a small-time crook known as Doctor , whose name was Oluwasegun was the same person as Oyenusi. After days of observing the shop, Oyebisi trailed Oluwasegun to his house. The next day Oyebisi caused a scene in Oluwasegun's house. He claimed Oluwasegun's wife was actually his own wife. After the commotion Oyebisi left threatening to get even with Oluwasegun, who responded thus:"Emi Ishola!".

No that Oyebisu knew he had his man, he showed up at Oyenusi's shop the next with a team if from Agodi police station. Ishola Oluawasegun Oyenusi attempted to escape by seizing a saw with which he knocked out one of the arresting policemen. Yet he was captured. After a trial by a special armed robbery tribunal arraigned at Lagos City Hall, Lagos Island, Oyenusi and his accomplacies were çondemned to death by firing squad.

Before the shooting commenced, council workers brought in cheap coffins to the execution ground. Then sixteen army marksmen marched smartly unto position. Once ready, their officer ordered them tobtake aim and fire. The time was 11:00am. All eight men fell during the first round. Thus ended the journey of Nigeria's most wanted and dangerous doctor.
