Reasons why you shouldn’t be a teacher.

Have you ever thought of pursuing a teaching career? Or do you recently received an offer letter to a teaching institute? Or perhaps you are already a teacher yourself. Whatever reasons you may have, for you to be reading this now must be because you are interested with teacher, or teaching. If you are still considering whether you should proceed into this career – I suggest you to not decide until you finish reading this article. These are all my personal views. It is as stated in the title – there are reasons why you shouldn’t be a teacher.

1. You will be surrounded by people
Being a teacher means you are socializing A LOT. This is the worst when you are an introvert. You try to avoid people let alone having conversation. However the moment you stepped into the school, you will be greeted with many students who passed by, giving you warm smile and cheerful greetings. You will have to chit-chat with your colleagues, sharing interesting and funny stories that happened in the classroom, exchanging ideas and teaching hacks. Sometimes you will be getting unconditional supports from other teachers on days where you feel like the world turns against you, especially when your students didn’t score as targeted in your subjects – because they too are teachers. They understand how you feel, and they will never leave you alone. You will always be surrounded.

2. You will be idolized by the kids
It is children’s nature to look up to people in their circle – especially those who inspire them. Here is a pro tip: if you want to make the students like you, tell them inspiring stories, share them your life experiences and treat them friendly. I assure you they will instantly favour you in just a class session – most probably because you are spending the class time ‘wisely’ with ‘inspiring topics’ rather than teaching heavy and burdening topics.

3. You will be remembered
Teaching through many generations, you will eventually forget those numerous students. But there will be days where someone called your name, greet you out of nowhere in the middle of grocery shopping. They will introduce themselves and recall past events just to make you remember them, though you had long forgotten. And that time you will surely feel proud for them of what they had become, and for yourself, for being one of their respected human being that once showed them the world.

Now that you have read these points. It is all up to your judgement, whether being a teacher is the best career for you. After all, being a teacher won’t make you rich. But being a teacher will make you realize – that every children is precious, and you have the power to show them the world.
