I have seen that "shoulder thing" clip. Based on her gestures, my first thought was "I think she is describing a sling." My second thought was "what the fuck is the problem with slings." lol

I would say the problem runs deeper than people spouting off about things that they know nothing about. The masses are poorly informed about (relatively) specialized topics like guns and what purpose their individual components serve. She could get away with saying that we need to ban barrel shrouds because, like her, the majority of the public doesn't know what they are either. Information and education are key to combating bullshit, in my opinion.
