Video: Libertarianism and Black Lives Matter

In order to have an honest conversation, we have to look at this below the surface level.

Sort:

'But Black Lives Matter aren't really 'friends' of liberty...'

I agree with you largely, but one point you might consider is that in modern day politics, like minded groups band together to support one another's cause. This unity brings strength and this is how groups like the Clinton Campaign have done so well. One of the biggest problems I see with Libertarian's is how they so often fail to unite as such. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I would think BLM makes a fairly good fit, the challenges they present to the state are very important to Liberty. I also think that Liberty is not a political party, rather it is a concept that all political parties need to keep in mind. So I agree and support your notion of teaching and enlightening.

I don't think that's a very accurate analogy considering that BLM aren't libertarians

I was not making an analogy. I was simply saying that Libertarians often have no tolerance for other groups that have similar goals. This is done over something very small that doesn't really matter in the larger context. This behavior is what keeps Libertarians from uniting and winning any sort of large group favor.

So glad to see you on here, Eric! This song was phenomenal:

Keep up the great work, and welcome to Steemit!

big thanks my man!!

Here is an interesting read from the BLM Facebook page...

"Recently the Democratic National Committee endorsed the Black Lives Matter movement. The BLM network swiftly rejected that endorsement. While voting certainly matters, particularly in local municipalities like Ferguson, movement members are clear that voting for policies and politicians whose ultimate goal is to maintain a rotten and unjust system is counterproductive. Thus the movement cares about national politics, and many participants have sought to make presidential candidates responsive to their political concerns. However, there is deep skepticism about whether the American system is salvageable, because it is so deeply rooted in ideas of racial caste. "

Yet they advocated supporting of the Green Party which is even more authoritarian than the Democratic party

I don't think there was an official endorsement as the official stance is right there. it clearly indicates that some folks in BLM have, "sought to make presidential candidates responsive to their political concerns. "

However, most feel that the current political system is not salvageable.
