I am posting this in support of the Catalonian independence referendum that is currently being repressed by the centralist Spanish government, by violent means. I spent a summer in Barcelona as an intern during college - the Catalonians are some of the most gifted, hard working, creative people I have ever met! They were brutally repressed during the Franco regime and have been fighting for their independence ever since. Shame on Google for suppressing the voting applications at the request of the Spanish government, and shame on the Spanish government for suppressing the mere expression of political will at the voting booth.

As a sidenote, how cool is it that this type of suppression of speech is technologically impossible on Steemit???

Thanks for reminding us of the Catalonian independence movement. I too was in Barcelona back in July and last year as well. Love the city and region, and the people. I hope something positive comes out of this. Interesting to see where it goes, as whatever happens there could be pivotal for other regions around the world looking for independence (ex. Basque, Scotland, Kurdistan, Palestine, Hawaii, Taiwan, etc.)

CATALONIA IS SPAIN: some politicians want an illegal secession from Spain, ILLEGAL FAKE VOTING!

Imagine that Babaria in Germany wants to separate from Germany, or that Provence wants to separate from France, or California wants to separate from the USA.

Do you think that Germany, France or the USA would allow such secession to happen?

Obviously not, because they are integral parts of their countries, the same than Catalonia is an integral part of Spain since the times before the Roman Invasion of the Iberian Peninsula.

If such an attempt of secession would happen on those countries, they will apply the law to stop it and the police and even the army to enforce the law because that is the reason of being of the police and the army.

That's exactly what is happening in Spain, the law, the Spanish Constitution and the orders from the Judges are being applied to stop an illegal voting instigated by the insurgent regional government in Catalonia.

The police is closing the places where the illegal voting is attempted and seizing all the illegal material, but the police are finding resistance and violence from some people with wounded people and police as result. The police need to use the proportional force when required to complete the work that the judges have ordered them with to enforce the law.

Catalonia is an integral part of Spain and it will always continue to be, that is not negotiable.

In the S.XX the secessionist took us to a Civil War, we are now heading to a similar situation so a future second Civil War in Spain is unfortunately now possible. We hope that this time the international community, Europe, and the UN supports the democratic government of Spain to reject the insurgent secessionists and avoid war.

Catalonia already had an autonomous government with more powers that the government of Scotland have

But what the politicians from the Catalonia region want is not self-governing, that they already have, but complete secession from Spain and that is utterly impossible.

Spaniards are very friendly and peacefull people but we cannot allow some local politicians to execute a secession are steal part of Spain from all the Spanish people.

CATALONIA IS SPAIN

Thanks @freedomvigilante. Let me clarify, based on your reaction:

  1. I am not predicting that the Catalonian independence movement will succeed in obtaining secession (as far as "allowing" such secession to happen - of course not! My post was meant to highlight the injustice to which the central government is resorting in order to not allow this to happen
  2. I am not claiming that Catalonian secession is legal under Spanish law (I don't know Spanish law well enough to litigate that)

What I AM saying is that Catalonia has a moral right to secede. As both a German and a US citizen, I would grant the same right to Bavaria and California (since you ask). As a Libertarian, I believe that coercion (application of violence) is not justified unless that is in self defense. The Catalonian people are engaged in a peaceful referendum, and the only violence I see reported is that of the central Spanish security forces (but I am sure there are some violent Catalonian independence supporters as well, which I would condemn). If 80% of the non-Catalan Spaniards agree that "Catalonia is Spain", and 80% of the Catalonians agree that it isn't, how is this not an occupation?

In short I am not making a positive statement (what will happen) but a normative one (what should happen)

Appreciate the dialogue though, so I would welcome your reply.

It is self-defense, if someone comes to you to steal your land you have the right of self-defense to prevent him to steal your land.

That is what the left fascists secessionist politicians from Catalonia are doing, stealing the land of Spain from the rest of Spaniards.

It is fine if you "allow" Baviera or California to seceded but the majority of Germans and US Citizens, and their government will not allow it.

So secession should not happen and it will not happen.
