How Are You Monetizing Your Love for Liberty?

in #libertarian7 years ago (edited)

If you are a Liberty Lover like me, you might want to coordinate your efforts to promote liberty with your efforts to earn a living.

I'll call it the "Rothbardian Dream" that he discussed in the "Stages of Libertarianism" speech he gave.

Rothbard and the great, Lew Rockwell, joined forces 35 years ago to do just that when they founded the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

It really is a great organization with a wealth of resources and is very worthy of supporting.

That said, Lew also gave some great advice on what you can do to promote liberty:

"Learn everything you can about a free society. Read the greats, like Frederic Bastiat, Ludwig Von Mises, and Murray Rothbard. As you delve into the literature of liberty, share what you're reading and learning. Start a blog. Create a YouTube channel. Organize a reading group. But whatever you do, learn, spread what you're learning, and never stop." - Lew Rockwell

I have taken this to heart and work on many things simultaneously (probably to my detriment) such as:

libertyLOL blog
Some pro-Liberty twitterbots
Some Amazon affiliate stuff
Some affiliate relationships with CoinBase and Libertarian Country TShirts amongst others
Of course pimping the Tom Woods Liberty Classroom product
Looking into starting a podcast

Part of me doesn't really care about making a living off of it. Mostly, I want to be able to look my kids in the eyes when they get older and say that I did everything I could to reduce the national debt that we are carelessly racking up.

What are you doing to promote liberty, and what are you doing to make money?

Anyone having success blending the two?

Let me know down in the comments below.

Steemit, my podcast, and my monthly live event called “Liberty Sessions”

link to Liberty Sessions? EDIT: Nevermind. I found it. You do these live? Do you webstream them?

Found your podcast here. Is it on Stitcher or iTunes?
Thanks!

It is on itunes, not sure if Libsyn automatically uploads it to stitcher or not. Liberty Sessions isn’t streamed, but I made one I hosted a podcast. After the new year we are going to see about recording them and uploading it.

Sweet. I'll check out the podcast this week. Catching up on all the Jason Stapleton I missed during these audiobooks I was into the last month or so.

Starting my own businesses, doing my own thing, speaking out, acting out - trying to be the change I hope to see in the world - but mostly the businesses and work are the things I do to make money haha.

What kind of businesses?

Got any websites I can check out?

Let me tell you part of the story - About 4 years ago I started playing around with wordpress, domains, and web design. I am in the process of taking this site down, but qetamerica.org is a multisite - you can see some of my first blogging efforts at interest.qetamerica.org as well.

Through that experience I continued to learn (I passed through affiliate marketing, I still haven't found the right product for me ;p) and started working through freecodecamp and other courses on udemy, edx and coursera. All of this was while working on reforesting our farmland.

Just recently I opened a few new companies - we a prototype (coffeesource.net) which is slowly going into production, and have a udemy course in post production, but my main source of income right now is actually technology and development consulting. It turns out that knowing a little bit about everything and how it all fits together, as well as an ability to quickly pick up the basics of new stuff, is really useful for coordinating the efforts of developers!

Yeah, I'm doing what SEK3 called counter-economics.

Konkin presents his strategy for achieving a libertarian society in his aforementioned manifesto. Since he rejected voting and other means by which people typically attempt social change, he encouraged people to withdraw their consent from the state by devoting their economic activities to black market and grey market sources, which would not be taxed or regulated. "Konkin called transactions on these markets, as well as other activities that bypassed the State, 'counter-economics.' Peaceful transactions take place in a free market, or agora: hence his term 'agorism' for the society he sought to achieve." He also strongly opposed the idea of intellectual property.

Hope you'll start a podcast mate. :-)

Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.

To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.

To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as [steemit](https://steemit.com) Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.

This message was created by a bot. It is part of the ongoing fight against spam and phishing attacks on steemit. If you did not use short links in your post and feel you have received this message in error you can contact @fubar-bdhr on discord or @fubar.bdhr on steemit chat to report the issue.
