It seems the city of New Orleans will have to refund $28,000,000 in invalid fines from traffic scameras. Right now there is a petition going around to get these scameras removed. Governments just heart themselves Orwellian bullshit. They install a scamera and hope to fleece the public by saying they committed a crime. In this case the fines will be returned eventually. The city will appeal and considering how slow to act the government is at everything else, these refunds will take years to pay back.

If you live in New Orleans, I would highly recommend you sign the petition, http://www.nolainitiative.org

If you don’t live in New Orleans, this level of tyranny exists or is about to be implemented in your area. The time to be a human being instead of human doing is over.

I’ve had some tickets sent in the mail. Never paid them.

Most of the time when you go to fight it in court, they dismiss the case. They are looking for cows to milk, not smart people who are hip to their shenanigans.

I heard you can drive through on red all you want as long as you cover your face from the cameras. If they can't prove it was you they will throw it out.

Depends on the State. Usually if you press for discovery like getting the maintenance records, calibration guide, etc, they’ll dismiss. Ask that the police officer show up to court, because usually they are handled by a private company. There is a whole bunch of strategies for fighting them.

These were outlaws in NJ because a private company was sending the tickets out. So the government got caught allowing a private company to scam its citizens.

In so many cases these traffic cameras were installed using the "making traffic safer" cover. Instead they are used for revenue generation, and the traffic safety they claim they want actually gets worse! In most cases they shorten the yellow light cycle, or people hit their brakes when see the flash.

That city is already broke. The traffic cams are a boondoggle for them. I'm sure if you dig deep enough you'll find a contractor stuffing money in council members' pockets hint

Oh without a doubt, this is Louisiana. Somebody's brother in-law or a cousin needs to get a contract. It is silly that even when corruption is exposed, people's first reaction is to play down it's effect on their lives.
