Learn How to Speak LGBT+ (Part 3 - Ally)

in #lgbtsteemit7 years ago

Today we go over an Important term that the community uses: Ally

To me this is one of the most important terms that is used within the community and why? We will get to that soon. Let's start by its definition within the LGBT+ community.

What is the mean of Ally?

Typically any non-LGBT person who supports and stands up for the rights of LGBT people, though LGBT people can be allies, such as a lesbian who is an ally to a transgender person.

Some might use the expressions Straight Ally or Heterosexual Ally. But in my personal opinion and going with the definition and for a bigger and better unity I think it is important that we see ANYONE as an Ally no matter where they are in all the possible Human Spectrum.

Let's dig a little bit more and not only define the word but all what does it mean when it comes to influence Society and the community.

A straight ally or heterosexual ally is a heterosexual and cisgender person who supports equal civil rights, gender equality, LGBT social movements, and challenges homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. Despite this, some people who meet this definition do not identify themselves as straight allies. A straight ally believes that LGBT people face discrimination and thus are socially and economically disadvantaged. They aim to use their position as heterosexual or cisgender individuals in a society focused on heteronormativity to fight homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.

The Allies are a very important part of the community maybe the most important ones in this days we live in. Because all that the community it is looking for is equality and unity between all the Human beings. This might sound very surrealistic and maybe it is for this times but it is up to was to keep working ALL together as Allies to make a change.

Why do we need more Allies that are LGBT+ ?

Personally to me and inside the LGBT+ community People need to work a lot on this. A lot of times the same People that are looking for equality don't want to understand, accept or support some other "group" that are part of the same community and for as long that is happening in such a big scale it won't make it easier for anyone.

So if You are part of the community no matter what is Your orientation next time You have a situation or meet someone that is part of the community as well but it is different than You don't judge. Remember that You might have got access to some equality or acceptance but that other group of People that might be still fighting to achieve that same equality that You already got.

Be kind and don't forget that You are not the only one having problems and that not everyone feels or it is the same as You are.

Are You an Ally?

This is the question I would like to see answered today and also I would like to hear Your opinion about the importance of the unity between Allies inside the LGBT+ community but that belong to different groups.
