the identity triangle

Warning: this post is pretty all over the place I wrote it all down in one go in an attempt to understand my own opinions.

The LGBT community is one with a lot of infighting about many things but the one argument I hear more then the others is who should and shouldn't be included in the LGBT community. I think this is in theory necessary but in practice, it is really fucked up. I think we have a long way to go before we are a cohesive community but let me share my opinion in the hopes that it can get us one step closer to that future. There are too many labels to continue using a simple initialism like LGBT only is adding a letter argued about all the time when we do add a letter people outside our community become confused and that creates distance between those who are LGBT and those who aren't. The elderly grandmother whose grandson comes out does not freak out because he is gay but because the only example of gay people she has seen are the people celebrating at pride(our parties are the best!). we need our allies and we need to stop being seen as a fringe group full of nipple piercers and nudists we need to be seen for who we are: normal people The accountants, the grocery store clerk, the grandkids and even the parents and grandparents. I think we should have a way to ask and understand other peoples and our own identity. The method I made up for my own use I refer to as the identity triangle it's comprised of your sexuality gender and relations. For example, whenever I start dating someone I tell them the details of my triangle: I am pansexual polyamorous and transgender.
