The symbol of Budapest is the monumental and brilliant majesty and beauty of the Hungarian Parliament's building, Országház. This is an expression of the national pride and strength of our nephews. It was built to commemorate the millennium of the Copernicus statehood, which was celebrated in 1896.

Under an agreement in 1867, the Kingdom of Hungary became part of the dualistic Austro-Hungarian Empire. The time has come for calm and stability, and especially the last years of the 19th century have brought a rapid development of Hungarian industry and an increase in state revenues, and thus also the development of cities - in 1873 Buda and Pest, situated on both sides of the Danube, merged to take the name of Budapest. To commemorate the millennium of Hungary, which was celebrated in 1896, it was decided to build a parliament building. The momentum of the project was enormous and the effects spectacular. The building reminds us that Hungary was once a large and strong country - references to the Great Hungary can be seen many times.

The left bank of the Danube, Pest, was chosen as the construction site for the Madzhar Parliament, with its wetland and marshy terrain. The difficult and costly work began with the drying and strengthening of the future construction area. There was even a special railway line set up to transport the wood stored there.

The building was designed by Hungarian architect Imre Steindl. For the building he chose the neo-Gothic style and modelled on the building of the British Parliament. However, he made every effort to make Országház more beautiful than any other building of this type built to date.
