What if complex things are actually simple?

Take Blender for example.

I started learning how to use that 3D software a while ago. The first time you look at it, it seems pretty scary and complicated. The interface is all weird, with all kind of menus and buttons that you don't really know and everything seems strange.

But after you spend a little bit of time trying to learn a few things, learning that you can move your camera with your middle mouse button, or that you can position your camera to view things better with shift and your middle mouse button, or that you can use TAB or Z to see your 3D objects in all kind of different ways that will make work a lot easier, then the entire program stops looking so complicated.

The same principle applies to a lot of things in life. Sure, there are complicated things that require a lot of training before figuring out, and things that you can't really do professionally until you spend enough time learning, like programming.

However, in most cases, as long as you're willing to learn the basics and as long as you work hard enough to complete projects and to experience things on your own, you will be able to understand how to work with all kind of tools.

I gave you that example with Blender, but this applies to pretty much everything I learned. Working with Photoshop may seem really complicated for some people, but if you learn how Layers work, how to add effects, colors, gradients, how to use the tools you have and how to put everything together, then the entire software becomes fairly easy to use.

Sure, you won't be a pro just by learning the basics, but you'll be able to do all kind of things that will teach you more in the future.

There are a lot of situations that will look scary in this life, things you'll need to learn that will seem to complex for you to either use or understand. Don't be intimidated so easily, and give a try to almost anything, no matter how hard it may seem.

You'll see, often, that what you considered hard and complicated at first, was just the opinion of someone who didn't invest any time into learning the basics. The moment you do that, everything will start being easier and you'll get a hang of things.

Sort:

Everything unknown looks scary and difficult, maybe even impossible to be done. People should stop giving up before they even tried something. Prejudice is motivation killer.
I really like your articles and the way you push us to do more. Keep going on!

P.S. I am just starting to learn Blender and for now it really looks super complicated. Hope my persistence will award me at the end. :)

Well put, judging something to be complex and too complicated before even trying to learn the most basic things won't get anyone anywhere. Taking the time and getting some information about how to do something simple from someone with more experience than you can make a huge difference and help you understand things better.

Glad to see other people learning Blender, it seems like a really nice and poweful software.

In case it may help you with something, here's the channel I use to learn Blender: https://www.youtube.com/user/AndrewPPrice

With the help of this guy I managed to create this from nothing: FinalDonuts2.png

Here's the playlist with all the videos I watched to get to that result: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjEaoINr3zgHs8uzT3yqe4iHGfkCmMJ0P&disable_polymer=true

Good luck and keep learning :)

Thank you! Good luck to you too!
