Mnemonic behavior change, intro to mnemonics and next level

in #learning6 years ago (edited)

Hey guys, I am writing an ebook on behavior change and higher level learning with visual mnemonics, it is titled NeuroMnemonics... I copied and paste this directly from the introduction.

In order to create a new model for accelerated learning and behavior change, we must first study traditional accelerated learning methods.

One of the most powerful models for accelerated learning comes from the discipline known as mnemonics.

The word Mnemonic refers to anything that involves condensing information through the act of encoding, which enables a person to memorize information.

Mnemonic techniques date back to ancient Greek and Roman periods, when public speakers and philosophers would use memorization techniques in order to reproduce precisely large quantities of information, from short speeches to entire religious texts.

Although there are many different types of mnemonic methods, from acronyms to song, even using parts of the body as memory aids, the most powerful method for mnemonic memorization is visual mnemonics.

Definition - Visual mnemonics -the discipline of using visual images to remember information precisely by encoding and connecting images in order to facilitate reliable and accurate recall.

When it comes to memorization of information, Visual Mnemonics is unrivaled, and is used by great speakers to memorize speeches, medical students who need to memorize long lists of complex names of pharmaceuticals, and religious students who act to preserve entire religious texts within memory.

The problem that arises from mnemonics, is that the discipline focuses on learning from a purely academic standpoint, and does not address learning from a behavioral perspective.

The NeuroMnemonics system is an integrated approach to accelerated learning that focuses on the highest level of learning, behavior change.

We maintain that if behavior has not been changed, then learning has not occured.

In order to develop a system that is superior in efficiency in regards to learning, as defined as behavior change, we are going to first seek to understand the most powerful methods of learning, by studying the best disciplines in the field of accelerated learning, and extract the essential structure and function from these disciplines, in order to integrate them together into a single whole, a practical method for learning that contains the essence of the most powerful disciplines, without any superfluous or unnecessary elements.

So we are going to first break down how the most powerful memorization discipline works, identify the core techniques and structure of the techniques, so we can then integrate and improve.

In Visual Mnemonics, there are 3 basic methods of memorization, 3 techniques that are used by the majority of all mnemonists.

1-Loci - This method involves taking familiar images in your environment, such as furniture in your bedroom, or a familiar walk down a city street, and connecting information to those images

2-Story- Story method involves creating connections between images using interaction, where the two images are linked by some type of action.

3-Chain - Chain method relies on creating connections by connect images spatially, so a new perimeter is created that encompasses both images.

These are the 3 most common and useful methods of mnemonics used by the greatest masters of memory.
