The yellow woodsorrel, whose scientific name is oxalis stricta, is a herbaceous plant native to North America, part of Eurasia.

It is called also common yellow oxalis, upright yellow-sorrel, lemon clover, or more ambiguously and informally "sourgrass", "sheep weed", or "pickle plant".

The alternate leaves grow up to 2 cm wide and are divided into three heart-shaped leaflets, characteristic of the oxalis genus.

When disturbed, the adult seed capsule explodes open and can disperse seeds up to 4 meters away.

All parts of the plant are edible and have a distinct, sharp taste, which is also characteristic of all plants in the genus oxalis .
