Wax mallow, whose botanical name is malvaviscus arboreus, is a species of flowering plant in the Malvaceae or the hibiscus family.

It is native to Central America, Mexico, and the Gulf Coast of the United States, primarily as a coastal forest floor in Texas and Louisiana.

This plant is a common understory shrub and an important food source for female and juvenile ruby-throated hummingbirds and black-chinned hummingbirds.

As a result, wax mallow is commonly grown in shady to sunny locations in butterfly and hummingbird gardens in the southern United States.
