Madrone, scientific name arbutus menziesii, is a species of evergreen broadleaf tree in the ericaceae family.

Commonly known as arbutus in Canada, it is native to the west coast region of North America from British Columbia to California.

Many animals and birds feed on the nuts of this tree. Examples include juncos, American robins, cedar waxwings, band-tailed pigeons, varied thrushes, quail, mule deer, raccoons, ring-tailed cats, and bears.

Madrone is a very useful food source because it produces large quantities of berries and the fruit can stay on the tree through the winter.
