Ivy, with the botanical name hedera helix, is a species of flowering plant in the araliaceae family.

Also called common ivy, English ivy, or European ivy, it is native to much of Europe and western Asia.

Ivy is an evergreen climbing plant, usually growing up to 20-30 m tall on the surface of trees, cliffs, or walls, or horizontally on the ground if there is no vertical surface.

The leaves are alternate and come in two types. Namely, young 5-leaf palmate leaves on creeping and climbing stems and unlobed heart-shaped mature leaves on fertile flowering stems exposed to full sun.
