Cedar elm, with the scientific name ulmus crassifolia, is a deciduous tree native to south-central North America, especially southern and eastern Texas.

The leaves are small, 2.5 to 5 cm long and 1.3 to 2 cm wide, with a sloping base.

The fruit is a small winged samara, 8-10 mm long, which ripens soon after flowering in late autumn.

Its wind-pollinated flowers are produced in late summer or early fall. They are small, inconspicuous, and reddish purple.
