Camphor tree, also known as camphorwood or camphor laurel, is a species of evergreen tree with the scientific name cinnamomum camphora.

Originally the tree came from China south of the Yangtze River, Taiwan, southern Japan, Korea, India and Vietnam, but has now spread to many other countries.

Camphor tree is cultivated for the production of camphor and its wood. Camphor has been used for centuries as a cooking spice, an ingredient in incense, and as a medicine.

In Japan, the tree is called kusunoki. And today, there are five largest camphor trees with trunk circumferences exceeding 20 meters (66 feet), the largest known as Kamonokusu (Great Kamō Camphor), reaching 24.22 meters.

In Japan, certain camphor trees are considered sacred. One example is the 700-year-old sacred camphor tree that grows in the middle of Kayashima Station in the city of Neyagawa, Osaka Prefecture.
