Asian hazel, whose botanical name is corylus heterophylla, is a species of hazel native to East Asia, Korea, Japan, and southeastern Siberia.
It is a small deciduous tree or shrub with gray bark, growing up to 7 m tall, with a trunk up to 20 cm thick.
The leaves are rounded with double to slightly lobed edges and often truncated at the tips.
The nuts are edible and resemble common hazelnuts. They are widely grown commercially in China.
