American Wahoo (Euonymus Atropurpureus)

American wahoo, whose botanical name is euonymus atropurpureus, is a species of deciduous shrub in the bittersweet family that grows up to 8 m tall and has stems up to 10 cm in diameter.

Also called Eastern wahoo, burningbush, and hearts bursting with love, it is found primarily in the Midwestern United States, spreading from southern Ontario to northern Florida and northern Texas.

The leaves are oval and opposite, with long, abruptly tapering tips and finely serrated edges.

They are green above, often with fine hairs below, and turn bright red in the fall.
