American Sweetgum (Liquidambar Styraciflua)
The scientific name for the American sweetgum is liquidambar styraciflua.
The tree is also known by a variety of names, including American storax, hazel pine, bilsted, redgum, satin walnut, starleaved gum, alligatorwood, or simply sweetgum.
It is a deciduous tree of the genus liquidambar and is native to the warm temperate regions of eastern North America and the tropical mountainous regions of Mexico and Central America.
Sweetgum is one of the most common hardwoods in the southeastern United States, growing naturally in the lowlands but not in the cooler uplands.
