Reed canary grass, with the scientific name phalaris arundinacea, is a tall, perennial bunchgrass.

It commonly forms vast monospecific stands along the banks of lakes and rivers and in moist open areas.

This plant is widely distributed in Europe, Asia, North Africa, and North America.

The blades are usually green, but can be variegated.

Spikelets are light green, often with dark green or purple stripes.

This grass can easily be used as pellets to be burned in biomass power plants.
