Japanese cinnamon, whose scientific name is cinnamomum pedunculatum, is a species of plant belonging to the laurels family.

It is said to be found scattered throughout Japan's main island, Shikoku, Kyushu, Okinawa, Jeju Jangcheon Island, and China, but in Japan it grows naturally from the southern Kinki region to Okinawa.

The leaves are nearly opposite, but some appear slightly offset or alternate.

The leaf blade is oblong, 6 to 12 centimeters long, fragrant, leathery, stiff, and often slightly wavy.

They are dark green in color with a strong surface sheen and three transparent leaf veins and two lateral veins.
