4 Steps To Leading People You Don't Know

in #leadership8 years ago

When you are hired for a management position, or you become a manager level in your network marketing company, you are responsible for leading people you don't know.

You'll have many expectations placed upon you from people that have either disliked your predecessor, or you may be the savior for them one you step into place.

Either way, if you are in a leadership position you'll be working with people you don't know on a regular basis. What can you do to show them that you have what it takes?

Today, I'll share with you 4 steps to leading people you don't know, and how you can earn their respect every time.

Leading People You Don't Know Can Be Easy

When you are placed into a leadership position, do you feel afraid? Do you look forward to making positive change?

Regardless of where you are placed and who placed you into this position, you will most likely be leading a group of people that you don't know. Being a leader isn't about the people you know or don't know. However, if you aren't familiar with their work or how they work you could be feeling a bit sheepish.

Here are 4 insights for leading people you don't know.

  1. Communicate your values. Building relationships with your coworkers and your clients is important. However, it's all about being authentic. You should share with people how you think, and share what your core values are. If you don't people won't truly get to know you. You don't have to bare your soul, but it's important that you let people know what you are about.
  2. Create new goals. With every new team comes a new set of responsibility and a nw set of goals. If you are holding a new team to the same expectations as your old one, you are being unrealistic. Create new goals and share with your team the importance of reaching them. Share your ideas on how you'll reach them.
  3. Communicate to the nth degree. It has  been said that communication is the essence of life. This is true. Without communication we aren't able to live and contribute in society. Others need to know how we feel, and you MUST be clear and direct. Every day is a new day with new challenges. Be open and honest about what needs to get done and how soon.
  4. Solve a long-term issue as soon as possible. If you are in a management position and you want to show others that you can lead effectively, then get any issues out in the open. Oftentimes, during a time of transition there is something that has been plaguing an organization for far too long. This is where you can really shine. Find out what the problem is, and do what you can to get it resolved.

Leaders are not necessarily born. Every individual must work at reaching their goals in order to achieve success. Leadership is something you work at consistently whether you work with the same folks for many years, or whether you are leading people you don't know.
