A LEADER plays an integral part in a group. He is the one who handles the members to achieve a common goal. Each member is relevant towards the success of a team. But, undoubtedly, a leader's characteristic and ability really matters a LOT.

The Essentials Qualities of A Good Leader

Here are some qualities a leader should not possess and should avoid at a cost:

• Being close-minded.

You should always listen to your members and consider their suggestions as much as possible. You are the leader but it doesn't necessarily imply that only your ideas should be taken into consideration. You have to brainstorm with your members and accept that their ideas can be better than yours. And that's okay. Because at the end of the day, you're not there to compete with your members' ideas but rather to work with them in order to succeed.

• Bossy.

Yes, you are the leader. But you are not a boss. Your job is to organize things and lead the group in a proper way. Your task is not to order your members around like you're a boss and they're your workers, or worse, slaves. That's not how a team should work. There should be mutual respect among the leaders and members. Being bossy would only create conflict. Never let your members feel that you're a dominant and they're inferior compared to you.

• Arrogant.

The pressure of being a leader and the responsibilities of the said position can be tremendous most of the time. It's really possible to lose your composure and get irate while on the verge of being pressured from the loads of work. Despite that, you should always remember to treat your members nicely. Don't be arrogant. Talk to them politely even when it's hard. Members can be a source of headache oftentimes but there is a right way to deal with them. Be nice... Be kind to them because they're the key to the success of your group.

• Jealous.

As a leader, it is also your responsibility to be an inspiration to your members. When you see someone has great potentials, don't feel jealous. Don't be threatened just because you see him as a competitor. Instead, help him to improve his potentials. Help him sharpen his skillls and inspire him to become a good leader or even a better leader than you. Remember that your member's success is also your success as a member.
