A Boss and A Leaders: what defines their Being?

Not everybody merit the appellation leader. It is however true that everybody can be regarded as boss. Leadership is a quality that is exemplary and something which is lacking in today's 'leaders'.

I saw a quote on Instagram by @foundr stating the difference between boss and leaders. Boss says go but a leader says let's go. Having looked deeply, I noticed some people who actually call themselves leaders hardly have the fundamental characteristics of a good leaders.

A leader is someone who leads or guides a group, organization or country. A boss is someone who is in charge of a worker or organization. The head of a company.source

THE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A LEADER AND A BOSS.

There are notable differences between a leader and a boss. This is seen by virtue of how they relate with their subjects.

A leader is someone who listens to its subject, sits tight for his subjects to settle on a choice before he can counter it or acknowledge it.

A leader is someone who has a forgiving spirit, who curates a post without looking down at whose post is being curated.

A leader cares for the community and thinks of other communities at large. A leader is constantly respected by the majority for his exemplary characters.

On the other hand, a boss can be dreaded yet never respected. A boss is always authoritative, he doesn't care about his subjects, and he is always after his own self.

A boss creates fear, a leader confidence. A boss fixes blame, a leader corrects mistakes. A boss knows all, a leader asks questions.source

Take a look at this scenario: Mr A is the boss and the proprietor of the organization, each time he goes to the workplace the staff put on a show to act over passionate, they pretend and at the end not having the capacity to satisfy the boss. The boss barely know which of the staff is the most dedicated and ought to be encouraged yet could just give attention to the most laziest individual.

A leader could be the manager of the said company! Mr B Who listens to his staff (those under him) focuses on subtle elements, empowers the individuals who work hard and he is very much regarded.

A leader makes the environment more conducive for his workers that even on their sick bed they would love to go to work.

Whether we like it or not, we influence people by what we do. Our influences on others might not be a direct one but it is important we are conscious and cautious of what we do because posterity will always judge. We need to be compassionate about fellow human and understand that it pays to be humane.

The question now is: are you a leader? Do you impose things on your subjects or do you listen to their plight? Do you shove your boss-ship down their throats?

I would love to know.

Hi @euronation

A boss creates fear, a leader confidence. A boss fixes blame, a leader corrects mistakes. A boss knows all, a leader asks questions

This is an important point, what most bosses fail to realise is that the relationship they build with thier staff determines the success of the organisation
Been a leader is more uneasy than been a boss because a leader bears the burden of his followers but a boss puts all the weight on his followers. On the other hand most followers take undue advantage of thier leaders and makes them appear as weaklings and make them regret not been authoritative this act turns some leaders into bosses.
Well i still believe been a leader is by heart and a good leader leads by example of his good heart.
So definitely i am a leader.
Thanks

This is good to know, a leader who have its subject at heart. Thanks fir the visit.

Thanks for the great post

We need to cultivate the habit of living an exemplary life! Our actions do have remote effects on others. Many people call themselves leaders today but in reality they are bosses!

Thanks for this wonderful piece!

You're welcome. I love the fact you're seeing this in the same angle like me.

A boss says go but a leader says let's go

That explains the personality of a leader intoto. A leader carries his people along every step of the way, garnering suggestions from 'the led' as to what to do to make the organization a better one. He serves the interest of his people. A nice post and a pointer to the fact that we really lack leaders.

The leaders need to wake up. I appreciate the visit ma'am.

I do agree with all the issues raised here...but what I don't agree wholly is this...

A leader is constantly respected by the majority for his exemplary characters.

Sometimes, due to the compassionate dispositions of leaders, the followers become uncontrollable and can do anything without respect to the leader.

This played out in Nigeria politics during Dr Jonathan's administration. Hence, a good leader should not be too tolerant.

@eurogee

True, I understand your point being that when you give them chance they would want 'chances' I remember a wise man saying such.

At the end a leader is celebrated for good unlike a boss.

@euronation you are the best

A leader is always ready to carry his/her subject along.

From the sound of the lyrics, a boss is to work, while a leader is to a movement.
This is a clear dichotomy.

i rather be a leader than to be a boss.

Leader are either made or born. This are the two categories of leader we have.

the way a leader operate will tell the type of leadership style he adopts. We have some leader who rule like a boss. For example the authoritative leader, they are concern in giving commands and to make sure work is done.

The flow of communication is one way, they only send and never receive or listen to the subordinate. Lots more to talk but time will not permit hope to create a post on this leadership of a thing

Nice post, mostly we see boss(es)around but better to be a leader with 'learn from me attitude' .
