Smoothies!
This is the recipe I use for my smoothies. It's an excellent pick-me-up, especially if you add MCT[1]. Other additives, especially if you're not feeling well in the gastric area, include lower-carb drinkable yoghurt for gut flora balance. If you can find one. We have a Yakoult ripoff available at Aldi's. Check the labels and use the best fit.
LACTOSE INTOLERANCE WARNING
This recipe calls for cream or milk. If you are lactose intolerant, you might want to skip that part and make up the loss with MCT or some other safe fats you can drink
Instruments
- Nutri-bullet, ninja, or other style of blender
- Means of preparing your fruit, if needed
- Kitchen scales
Ingredients (per person)
- About 40g fruit [2]
- 4 ice cubes
- About 200ml of pure cream
- About 300ml of almond milk[3]
- 2 tsp MCT
Method
- Place fruit, ice, and cream in your blender vessel in order
(Note: I am making a "doubles" recipe in the large 'bullet' so all amounts are slightly off, but not by much) - Top up with almond milk, add MCT and prepare to blend
- Blend it!
(Our bullet ninja is shy lol)
Your smoothie is now ready to serve.
Note for smoothie aficionados: Do not add too much cream! Too much and your smoothie will turn into fruit flavoured butter, and be not very nice. I've done this twice. The first time, we made fat bombs and drank the buttermilk. The second time, I just ate it out of the container. Don't do it. Spare yourself.
You can also replace the fruit entirely with two or more tablespoons of cocoa powder if you want a chocolate-y smoothie.
[1] Medium Chain Triglyceride oil, it's a pure ketone and your body can use it without any interference, so it's almost like sugar that way. Except, you know, not evil.
[2] That's about half a kiwi fruit, or a small handful of berries if you don't have a set of kitchen scales
[3] For those who want the full LCHF experience, replace the cream and the almond milk with goats' milk
