Law Of Attraction - Did I Attract The Bad Stuff?

in #lawofattraction7 years ago (edited)

When I crashed my car once a 'friend' said, 'how did you attract that?'.

Really? Fucking really? Excuse the profanity but emotional intelligence, common sense and compassion are important to me. This comment lacked all three and was plain idiotic.

I do believe the law of attraction is a thing, a thing that works. But I don't think it is ANYWHERE near as simple as the mainstream self-help industry likes to make it out to be. I think the way it has been taught can be incredibly damaging to people's wellbeing, the teachings are incomplete, imbalanced.

It can also drive people into a pit of self-blame when things are not going well. And frankly, that's the LAST thing you need! So if you're going though a tough time and wondering if you attracted it... here's my thoughts:

Regarding any self-help advice, topic, concept, tool, model, theory and so on: if it doesn't make you feel empowered, it's not for you. Let it go.

Forgiveness, especially self forgiveness is an essential part of the law of attraction so if a comment encourages you to blame yourself, it's really best to ignore. They are probably just trying to help but maybe not so effectively. I take everything as a reminder of how I can change my focus to one that works for me rather than against me.

Yesss, self forgiveness and self love - two big things that are quite hard, at least for me! Thank you for your comment <3 and I love the name 'whatamidoing' hehe. It's literally what I think to myself every day!! ;)

It's important to remember that we are a product of our environment. That is not to say that we can't become something different entirely, but that is kind our default mode, so before we become conscious that we are creators, we kind of just project what we know. It takes a lot of digging to really get through all the junk because unless you live in nature and without television and with spiritually developed yet open minded parents and friends, there is crap all around us, all the time. Everyone needs a spiritual detox sometimes. After that it becomes much easier to love yourself.

I feel like I'm trying to 'reverse age'. So though my body gets older, I am actually trying to undo all the crappy conditioning in my head and go back in the other direction to that pure, powerful child, that beaming soul. Children love themselves so much, am trying to remember that state of being :)

I know exactly what you are talking about :-D We have everything we need, it's just covered up by everything else. Kids are the best teachers sometimes.

Great video @pinky-jangra I agree with you. They way the Law of Attraction is being taught to people can be damaging to their well-being especially if people expect to see results without putting much effort into the things they want to accomplish. Thanks for sharing your experience :)

Totally agree, the mass messages always miss out the part about actually having to do some work! ;-p

How is no Free Will fit in the law of attraction? I never have understand that like Sam Harris say...there is no Free Will...

Interesting you mention Sam Harris and Free Will - I have had his video open on my desktop for days - just waiting to find time to watch it! I've actually never seen him before, so I don't know of his message yet... how would you sum up what he says?

Its confusing me if there is no Free Will how can you create Your world....everything happende in de way of non duality....maybe you can tell me more after watching Sam 😉

Hehe for sure Jean, I will post back once I've watched him! :) <3 xxx

Hey Jean-Pierre! Well. There are only two words to describe my reaction to Sam Harris: mind fuck!!! The guy just confuses me... I couldn't keep his thread of thought.

That being said, I found another video where someone explained free will (or lack there-of) much better.

My understanding of the concept is that our brain is programmed by the outside world. The brain can then only operate a certain combination of 'choices' and results based on what has been programmed into it in the first place. So if I have only experienced the colour black and the colour white, I can only experience a life of black, white or different shades of grey.

If we had free will, I would be able to choose something beyond my programming. Like choosing the colour yellow. But this, they say is not possible. And therefore, I do not have free will. I get this. At a neurological level it makes sense.

But how does this free will thing operate beyond the physical brain? What of consciousness? We don't even know what consciousness is, so how do we know if it has free will or not? Once we move into the atoms that make our brain, we are into the world of energy, our brains are made of this energy. Where does programming fit in here? Where does free will come in now?

I wonder if because they cannot prove that free will does exist, they decide that it does not exist?

In terms of law of attraction... it says that 'like attracts like'. If there is 'no free will' then if your brain is only programmed to see the colour black, then you will only attract the colour black. You simply cannot access red, blue, yellow and so on.

However, I think that the principle of 'no free will' says that you continue to get new programming . So for example, one day you will see the colour yellow. And now, you will be able to attract the colour yellow.

What I don't understand then, is who/ what decides that I get to experience the colour yellow in the first place?

Well... now that I've thoroughly screwed with my own head, I think it's time to sleep!!! You know, I'm really not sure of the no free will thing. I have quite a mystical view on life and this idea of us just being programmed like robots is a little dry to me. :)

(after all that, do you wish you never asked??? haha)

Oh I just read something that said the belief of no free will is that there is only ever ONE possible outcome? Not even multiple options... I might have not understood it then. And now I think it even more sounds like a bit of bollocks hahah. Will research more...

Research is good....get as much info as you can to be able to make better judgements/decisions...your body/ brain does have electrical energy...but that is different from your spirits energy.
Law of attraction hangs true for me...but it works in many ways...'what' is doing the attracting is the thing to look at...the spirit or the biochemical computer you travel in (the body)
Until one is more aware, the body can control things and do its own attracting....this is where karma will step in and cause problems.
We do have free will...you make choices all the time....but the more we find out how much we are manipulated....the more the concept of free will disappears. At the base level free will consists of doing the job we came to do...or not....make of that what you will cos it opens another whole new bag thoughts....peace to ya pinkyJ

Thank you for your wonderful thoughts @zacmcfeegle :) I totally vibe with what you're saying. Recently I have been meditating a lot and I feel this helps me attract from the spirit more.

Free will is confusing to me - I get it but also don't get it ;p it feels a little limiting, constricting. A little too 'head' focused.

Peace to you tooo <3 xx

Thanks for the long and Nice realy, its confusing and maybe like you say, if there is no real evidence then they just say....its not exist. Stil after i see non duality and no Free Will i still Get so confused. Like you say we are then programma's robots and thats sounds terrible....maybe Some thing is using us. The strainge thing is that there are good people and bad people All without Free Will, so it seems there is evil and good. But even budha say that we have no Free Will...Einstein say the same but he say we are create or world with out minds....IM lost now haha

Btw sorry for my bad englisch somtimes 😀
